The cheap watch collects the same evidence
There is a persistent assumption that a cheaper tracker produces weaker data. For the purpose of analysis, it mostly doesn't. The V3 tags clubs automatically and records shot locations, which is the whole input.
What you pay more for further up the range is on-course convenience: a bigger screen, more information on the wrist while you play. Useful, and not what the analysis is built from.
So a V3 owner with a full season of rounds has a better data set than an X5 owner with six rounds. Completeness beats specification for every question an amateur actually has.
Automatic tagging is why the data holds up
Manual shot logging fails in a specific, predictable way: you log the interesting shots and forget the routine ones, which biases the sample toward drama.
Tags remove the decision. Every shot is captured whether it was memorable or not, and the boring ones are where the strokes actually leak: the eight-foot-short approach that happens twelve times a month.
That is why AVA's findings from Shot Scope data tend to be unusually specific. It is not that the sensor is better; it is that nothing is missing.
One season, two findings
Approach play, first. In the round above eight of twelve approaches finished off the green, most of them from rough, leaving 31.7 feet on average. The tee shots put them there, which is where the fix starts.
Disasters, second. That round was not nine bogeys; it was seven playable holes and two blow-ups, a 7 on the par-4 2nd and a 6 on the par-4 9th. Take those back and the same golf is a level-par nine.
Both need a season to see clearly and both are cheaper to fix than anything you'd get from a lesson that started from feel. AVA ranks them by what they cost and updates the order as you improve.

Is the V3 data as good as the newer models?
For analysis, effectively yes. It tags clubs automatically and records shot locations, which is the input. The newer models give you more on the wrist during the round, not more in the file.
Can AVA read my V3 rounds?
Not today. Shot Scope is not a connected source, so there is no way to bring a V3 round in. Keep tagging and keep syncing to your account: that history is what a connection would read, and it does not expire.
Does this change anything in Shot Scope?
No. AVA reads your rounds and never writes back. Your rounds, stats and handicap stay exactly where they are.
How many rounds before it's useful?
One round gives you a read. Ten to twenty give you a trend, and a trend is the only honest answer to whether something is improving.
What if I forget to wear it sometimes?
Gaps weaken trends but don't invalidate them. AVA works from the rounds it has, just be aware that a season with half the rounds missing is a smaller sample, not a different game.
