Strokes gained, over a window
Strokes gained evaluates a shot against expected stroke value from that exact distance and lie. Hit an approach from 140 yards to eight feet and you have gained; leave it in the bunker and you have lost. The unit is consistent everywhere, which is why a tee shot, a chip, and a four-footer can be compared on one unified scale.
One round is a snapshot. Twenty rounds is a reliable diagnosis. AVA Golf operates over a rolling window — your last five, ten, or twenty rounds — so a single bad bounce cannot distort your practice plan, and a lucky round cannot hide a chronic leak.
