Fairways hit is the least useful stat you track
GolfPad will happily tell you that you hit 6 of 14 fairways. That number has almost no relationship to your score, because it treats a ball two yards into the first cut and a ball in the trees as the same event.
Strokes gained does not. It asks what a scratch player would go on to score from where your ball finished, and prices the difference. Two yards into the rough costs you almost nothing; behind a tree costs you a full shot before you have swung again.
That reframing is usually uncomfortable and always useful. Most golfers who believe they have a driving problem have an approach problem and two penalty shots a round, and the fairway percentage was never going to tell them.
What Tags data lets you find that a scorecard cannot
A club on every shot changes the questions you can ask. Instead of 'I miss greens', you get 'eight of twelve approaches finished off the green, seven of them played from rough'. Those are completely different problems with completely different fixes.
Eight feet short, repeatedly, is not a strike problem. It is a yardage problem: you are playing to your best-case carry rather than your reliable one. The fix is one more club and the same swing, and it is available to you this weekend.
AVA looks for exactly that kind of pattern: a bias that repeats across a round or a season rather than a bad shot you already know about. A repeated bias is cheap to fix, which is why it is worth finding first.
Two holes, not eighteen
Look at the scorecard above. Two holes did the damage: a 7 on the par-4 2nd and a 6 on the par-4 9th, five shots between them, with four penalty strokes in the round. The other seven holes came in at one over par between them.
This is the most common shape in amateur scoring, and it means the fastest route to a better handicap is usually not better golf. It is fewer disasters: a 3-wood off the tee where the trouble sits at 250, a wedge back into play instead of a hero shot, one more club into a front pin.
AVA finds the holes and the decisions where your rounds actually break, prices each one, and gives you the small number of changes that would have saved the most shots. Then it does it again next round, because the answer moves as you improve.

Where do I find my GolfPad round link?
Open the round in GolfPad and use its share option. Paste whatever link it gives you: if it opens in a browser, AVA can read the round behind it.
Do I need GolfPad Tags?
No, but they make the analysis considerably sharper. Without Tags, AVA works from scores, hole context and shot locations. With Tags, it also knows which club you hit, which is what turns a vague miss into a specific yardage fix.
Does this change anything in GolfPad?
No. AVA reads the round and never writes back. Your rounds, scores and handicap stay exactly where they are.
Can I bring in a whole season?
Yes, and it is worth doing. One round is a snapshot; twenty rounds is a trend, and a trend is the only honest answer to whether something is improving.
What about range and simulator practice?
That is the point of AVA. Rounds and sessions are scored on the same scale and sit on one timeline, so you can finally see whether what you practise shows up in what you shoot.
Who sees my data?
You do. Nothing is shared with a coach, a club or anyone else unless you send them a link, and you can export or delete everything whenever you want.
Do I need a coach for this to be useful?
No. AVA tells you what to work on and prescribes video from Top 100 teaching professionals to match. If you already have a coach, send them the round link: the lesson starts with the data instead of twenty minutes of catch-up.
