AVA Golf

You track with a Garmin Approach.
Now change your game.

Your Approach sessions already hold the answer — every one lands in your Garmin account and nothing reads it back to you. Connect it once and AVA reads all of them (carry, gapping, dispersion, strike) alongside the rounds off your watch, and hands you what to fix.

AVA INTELLIGENCE

One Garmin session in. Your gapping cost you more than your strike did. A 6-yard hole between the 7 and 8-iron leaves 17 yards below it that nothing covers.

Connect Garmin once and you're done

Garmin is a native sync, not an export job. Authorise it once and both sides of your game (Approach practice sessions and rounds off the watch) arrive on their own, scored on the same scale.

Connect Garmin AVA reads your sessions and never writes back. Nothing is posted to Garmin, nothing is shared with a coach or a club unless you send it, and you can disconnect or delete everything whenever you want.

Turn your Garmin sessions into lower scores

The launch monitors that close their own loop

Most launch monitors hand you a file and leave the rest to you. The Approach R10 and R50 are different: if you practise with either one and play with an Approach watch, both halves of your game land in one Garmin account automatically.

That matters more than it sounds. The most useful comparison in golf data is between what you hit on the range and what you hit on the course, and it is normally impossible because the two live in different apps with different exports.

AVA reads both sides of a Garmin account, which means it can tell you that your practice 7-iron carries 157 and your on-course 7-iron carries 149. That single sentence explains more amateur approach misses than any swing analysis.

Mat carry versus course carry

Practice numbers almost always sit above course numbers, and there are three ordinary reasons: a mat forgives a fat strike, a range ball is not your ball, and nobody on a driving range is standing on a downslope into a breeze.

None of that makes practice data wrong. It makes it a ceiling: the number your best strike produces under ideal conditions.

AVA plays the two off each other rather than averaging them. Sessions set the ladder; rounds decide which rungs cost you shots. When the two disagree, the disagreement is the finding, and it is usually worth a club.

Estimated spin, and what to do about it

Consumer radar generally models spin rather than measuring it, and spin drives descent angle, which decides whether a green holds your approach.

So AVA is careful with it. Gapping, dispersion and strike conclusions stand on their own. Wedge and descent-angle conclusions are reported as directional when the spin behind them is estimated, rather than presented with the confidence of a measurement.

The practical upshot: use Approach data to fix your bag and your yardages, which is where most of the strokes are anyway, and treat spin findings as a hint rather than a verdict.

Garmin launch monitor questions, answered

Do I have to export anything from my Approach?

No. Garmin is a native sync: authorise the connection once and sessions arrive on their own. No CSVs, no files, no setup call.

Is this the same as the Garmin rounds page?

Different half of the same account. This page is about practice sessions from an Approach launch monitor; the rounds page is about the rounds your watch records. One Garmin connection feeds both.

Which Approach units work?

Any whose sessions sync into Garmin Golf, including the R10 and R50. AVA reads whichever parameters your unit reports and says plainly which conclusions the file supports.

Does AVA change anything in Garmin Golf or Garmin Connect?

No. The connection is read-only. AVA never writes back, so your sessions, rounds and club distances stay exactly as they are.

Will my old sessions come in?

AVA brings in what your Garmin account makes available rather than starting from the day you connect. History is what turns a snapshot into a trend.

Can I disconnect later?

Yes, at any time, from AVA or from Garmin's own authorised-apps screen. You can also export or delete everything AVA derived from your data.

Who sees my Garmin data?

You do. Nothing is shared with a coach, a club or anyone else unless you send them a link.
